ENGINEERING LANDMARK. Completed on December 24, 1925, the R-1340 was Pratt & Whitney's first engine. It was the most advanced air-cooled radial engine of its time. The Wasp was designed to meet U.S. Navy requirements for powering carrier-based combat aircraft. It easily passed the Navy testing and an order was placed for 200 engines.

In 2016, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers celebrated just such an engine. The society designated the Pratt & Whitney R-1340 Wasp a technology landmark, the organization's highest.

Does anyone have dimensioned drawings for the P&W R-1340 Wasp? I'm building a 3D CAD model of the CAC Wirraway, and need dimensions for the engine. The Wirraway used the R-1340 S1H1-G geared engine, but dimensions for any other versions will still be helpful, since the crank-case, cylinders and rear housing were all common.
